Frequently Asked Questions
We want to ensure that the Rain Bird® ESP-SMT Smart Control System is the industry's easiest-to-use Smart Controller. To help you better install, program and sell this innovative system, we've compiled a list of commonly asked questions below.
A: Also known as ET controllers, weather-based controllers, self-adjusting controllers or climate-based controllers, Smart Controllers have been proven to increase outdoor water efficiency, while maintaining-and in many cases even improving-the health and beauty of the landscape.
A: The ESP-SMT saves homeowners money by reducing their overall water usage. Specific water savings will depend on how much your clients have over-watered in the past, but pilot studies have shown typical water savings to be in the range of 20-40 percent annually and sometimes even higher.
In addition, landscapes that are watered appropriately are healthier and less likely to suffer from fungal disease and insect infestations that can require costly treatment, potentially saving your customers even more money
A: First off, the ESP-SMT gets its weather data from an on-site weather sensor, unlike other weather-based controllers that receive their weather data from paging signals that require a monthly subscription fee. The ESP-SMT's on-site weather also features a rain tipping bucket that not only suspends irrigation during rain events, it measures useable rainfall.
Additionally, the ESP-SMT offers ease of installation, a strong manufacturer reputation and track record, along with available product support and warranties.
